Redknapp pleads for Gallas chance

Football News: William Gallas Harry Redknapp urged Tottenham fans to give former Arsenal defender William Gallas the chance to become a White Hart Lane hero.

Gallas, 33, was, on Friday, on the brink of crossing the north London divide after agreeing a one-year contract with Spurs, with a medical the only stumbling block to his signing.

But passing that test could end up being child's play compared to winning over his new club's supporters, who have been almost conditioned to jeer the former Gunners and Chelsea defender over the last decade.

But Redknapp cannot understand anyone wanting to abuse the France international because he used to play for the enemy.

"He's done nothing wrong. What's he done wrong?" said Redknapp.

"He's not the first player to go from Arsenal to Tottenham or Tottenham to Arsenal.

"It happens all the time.

"He won championships and all sorts at Chelsea.

Barclays Premier League Preview Another hefty dose of thrilling action awaits as the Barclays Premier League enters its second week.

Tottenham travel to Stoke on Saturday seeking to bounce back from their Champions League qualifying defeat by Young Boys.

Spurs were beaten 3-2 in Bern and will be looking for their first win of the season at the Britannia Stadium, having opened their Barclays Premier League campaign account with a 0-0 draw at home to Manchester City last weekend.

Stoke, though, will provide another stern test for Harry Redknapp's side.

"It's another hard game for us, but that's football," midfielder Luka Modric, who is a doubt for the clash after going off injured in midweek, said on tottenhamhotspur.com.

"You cannot choose the games you want to play.

Liverpool vs Arsenal: Dirk Kuyt, Marouane Chamakh Dirk Kuyt's agent claims his client is pondering a reunion with Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan.

New Inter boss Benitez is an admirer of the hard-working Holland international and reports suggest he is lining up a bid to bring Kuyt to the San Siro.

The player's agent Rob Jansen told Voetbal International: "Yes, there is real interest from Inter, but Dirk has not yet decided if he wants to leave Liverpool.

"This is also a complicated transfer. Dirk Kuyt is a key player for Liverpool, he has an ongoing contract and was recently in the World Cup final.

"He may move to Inter or just stay at Liverpool. There is also the possibility that a player from Inter could be included in the deal with Dirk Kuyt."

Kuyt was rested for Liverpool's Europa League play-off clash with Trabzonspor last night.

Football News: Joe Cole Liverpool winger Joe Cole held his hand up and admitted that his penalty miss against Trabzonspor was a bad one.

The mighty Reds managed to walk away with a 1-0 win at Anfield in the Europea League qualifier against the Turkish side courtesy of a Ryan Babel goal.

Roy Hodgson's men could have doubled the lead in the second-half but Cole stepped up to the spot, only to see his weak effort saved by the goalkeeper.

After the game, Cole told ITV Sport, "It was a bed penalty, I hold my hands up. It was predetermined [the penalty], but you can't dwell on them things. We won the game 1-0 and we take positives from that."

The England star who has had a terrible week having received a straight red card in his Premier League debut against Arsenal at the weekend is refusing to dwell on the past, claiming that his assist that set Babel up for the goal is a stepping stone to better things ahead.

He added:"[I'm] finding my feet in there, its my job to do that and make goals and it was nice to do that for Ryan and I'm enjoying my start here,

Hodgson: Reds left with work to do

Football News: Babel Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson admitted his side now face a testing trip to Turkey next week after a 1-0 home win against Trabzonspor.

Ryan Babel scored the only goal as the Reds beat the Turkish Cup winners 1-0 in the first leg of their Europa League play-off at Anfield.

Victory would have been much more comfortable had Joe Cole converted a second-half penalty and debutant Christian Poulsen not had a goal disallowed.

"I think with our second-half performance we can probably count ourselves unlucky," said Hodgson, who made seven changes and gave captain Steven Gerrard a night off.

"We probably did deserve the extra goal which would have made the trip to Turkey more comfortable. Now it won't be comfortable at all.

"If you miss a penalty you can't blame anybody but yourselves but I thought we were unlucky with the disallowed goal.

"Overall I am very pleased with the result and performance, especially second half, but whether it will be good enough to take to Trabzonspor, only time will tell."

Cole's miss continued a miserable week for the former Chelsea midfielder, who was sent off against Arsenal on Sunday and found guilty of speeding on Wednesday.
